Winter 2023 Newsletter

THOMPSON HIGHLANDS WINTER 2023 NEWSLETTER

-Enclosed in this mailing, in addition to this newsletter, you will find the Dues Statement for 2023 dues and the Neighborhood Roster. Please look it over carefully because it contains helpful information other than just your neighbors’ contact information. Also, let us know if there are any errors please.

-You’ll notice that the dues statement reflects the revised dues amount of $200, effective 2023. People often ask if they can pay on one of the on-line payment options. We’ve looked into this but for our small group and for 1 time use per year, it’s not cost effective for us to enable this option. However, some neighbors have their bank send a check directly to our PO Box.

-CONSTRUCTION ON THOMPSON ROAD!!! There are currently 2 projects on Thompson Road in progress.
One that was scheduled for completion in Summer of 2024 is a new road alignment connecting Thompson road to Kenny Terrace (near the firehouse) in order to avoid the two sharp curves on Thompson west of Saltzman. This project is delayed for now until right-of-way acquisition is complete.

The other Thompson Road project is scheduled to start in Summer 2024 and completed in Fall 2025. What you see happening now is apparently the design start and surveying. This is the plan that will improve the safety of Thompson Road east of Saltzman to Marcotte Road (in Bonny slope area). It’s the work that will have the most positive safety impact for Thompson Highlands!! The plan is to widen Thompson Road between Saltzman and Marcotte Roads with a center turn lane, bike lanes and sidewalks. They also plan to update street lighting, traffic signs, striping, storm drainage and water quality facilities.

You can read further details if you Google “Washington County Road Construction” — look for Thompson Road projects for 2023 and 2024. You can also sign up there to receive project updates by email.

-We had a great neighborhood picnic in September with a very entertaining Illusionist. We’d like to have similar entertainment for our

2023 picnic so if you know of any group you’d like to recommend, let us know — board@thha.org. And thanks to those who signed up at the picnic to help for other neighborhood projects. If anyone else wants to volunteer to help with a project, it’s a great way to meet your neighbors.

-If you go to our website - www.thha.org - you’ll find pictures of the picnic. What you may not notice is that you can “click” on the few photos you see and they open up to a more extensive photo gallery. Check it out and maybe you’ll see pictures of you or your family.

-We do have several new neighbors this year - check the roster for an asterisk * by new neighbors’ names and make a point of greeting them if they live near you. Also, if someone moves into a home near you and you want to make sure they are greeted by our Welcome Committee, please email us to let us know. We aren’t always aware right away that someone has moved in.

-When we had the ice and wind storm during the Christmas timeframe, a large fir tree blew down blocking the Hibbard Road entrance/exit at Thompson Road. There were 3 men who came pretty quickly to pull the tree aside enough so one car could pass through. Thank you to those men but I didn’t recognize them (in the rain and wind, they had hoods on and hats pulled down so it was hard to see their faces) but if anyone knows who they were, let me know so we can personally thank them. Also, thanks to Janelle Leafblad who lives on the corner of Loy and Hibbard. She went out in that awful weather to put out street cones and yellow tape to warn drivers to slow down because of the downed tree. We were able to get a couple of professional arborists with power saws and a chipper to pretty quickly remove the tree. But there is damage to the landscaping in that area and one part of the tree trunk they weren’t able to fit in their truck. It’s just laying there waiting for someone to take if they’d like to chop it up for their own firewood. Feel free to take it!!!
